National Council of Sports has advised Uganda Athletics Federation to maintain consistence in their outstanding performance and defend their position among the prioritized National Sports Associations that receive augmented funding by the Government in Uganda through National Council of Sports.

Government/National Council of Sports has extended increased financial support to a tune of Shs.6,780,368,000 for the 2017/2018 Third Quarter (Jan-March 2018) to compliant National Sports Associations towards major upcoming sports events. The increase in support is as a result of an increase in government funding to the Sports Budget through National Council of Sports aimed at addressing the overwhelming demands for support to several sports activities/programmes.

The latest International Netball Rankings have Uganda in 7^th Position, just below South Africa and Malawi as the other African countries in the Top ten of the world’s best Netball countries.

Uganda will have a contingent of 69 athletes and eight officials at the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast in Australia April 5-15, 2018.

Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and National Council of Sports (NCS) announced the contingent at a joint press conference in Lugogo on Friday.

The athletes will take part in eleven disciplines including athletics, badminton, boxing, rugby, netball, shooting, cycling, squash, swimming, weightlifting, and table tennis.

National Council of Sports in collaboration with CoRSU Hospital and Canadian Sports Medicine are carrying out Screening exercises for sports athletes/persons for sports injuries. The 2 days Screening exercises are set for Tuesday, 6^th March 2018 and Thursday 8^th March 2018 at the NCS Hockey Pitch and are a continuation of the previous clinics in 2016 and 2017.

The Minister of State for Sports Hon. Charles Bakkabulindi on Wednesday February 21, 2018 inaugurated the National Council of Sports new Council (Board) led by Mr. Bosco Onyik at Copper Chimney Restaurant, Lugogo.

This comes shortly after the minister a fortnight ago renewed the appointments of the entire Board. In a meeting inaugurate the Board for the next two years ,(2018-2020) Hon. Bakkabulindi urged it to continue working as a team and achieve greater heights which is the reason for the reappointment of the full board.

National Council of Sports has today held a Media Briefing on the status of the Uganda Boxing Federation and agreed on the following position according to the NCS Chairman, Mr. Bosco Onyik. Below is the full press release:

National Council of Sports shall financially support the National Cricket Men’s Team, the Cricket Cranes to the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division 4 slated for 28^th April 2018 to 5^th May 2018 in Malaysia.

The Assistant General Secretary- Technical, Mr. David Katende empathized the pledge during the flag off of the team to the Qatar and India Tour as a build up for the above World League tournament.

Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) has distributed equipment worth Ugx16 million from Badminton World Federation (BWF) to schools around Kampala.

The equipment includes rackets, nets, tin of balls and manuals for students to equip themselves and play the sport at their respective schools.

UBA CEO Simon Mugabi handed over the equipment to over 20 schools in the presence of National Council of Sports (NCS) Assistant General Secretary-Technical David Katende at Lugogo on Tuesday.
