Ugandan cyclists to Take on the World On Rwandan Soil

Uganda's national cycling team is destined for Rwanda to be part of a historic week in world cycling in the land of a thousand hills.
National Council of Sports Assistant General Secretary (Technical), Milton Chebet, yesterday flagged off an eleven-strong Uganda Cycling Association team for the first UCI Road World and Para Cycling Championship to ever be held on African soil in 103-year history of the event. The competition that attracts the world's best from across the globe will take place 21-28 September in the Rwandan capital, Kigali.
Flanked by Senior Sports Officer Sarah Ann Nankya and Sports Officer James Kasumba at the NCS Secretariat in Lugogo, Chebet applauded Uganda Cycling for their valiant efforts in getting the team ready ahead such a prestigious championship.
Even if there have been significant increments in the national sports budget from government, Chebet rallied private partners to join hands with Ugandan federations and associations to fill funding gaps that still exist, and help boost talent identification, development, and eventual exposure.
There will be thirteen events in Kigali; six road races including a stand-alone race for U-23 women for the first time, six individual time trials, and a team time trial mixed relay, over the historic one week.
