Uganda set to take part in the Eastern Region Africa Junior Tennis Team Championships 30th July to 4th August 2025 in Dar-Es-Salaam.

Uganda set to take part in the ITF/CAT Eastern Region Africa Junior Team Competition for 12 & Under for Both Boys and Girls.
The Under 12 East African Junior Team Championships are set to kick off on the 30th July 2025 to 4th August in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania at Gymkhana Club bringing together junior players aged 12 years and under in both boys’ and girls’ categories.
Teams from the East African region (Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan & Tanzania will take part in this 8th Edition of the Eastern African Team Competition.

This group of players have been part of the Junior Tennis Initiative Program (JTI) run by the Uganda Tennis Association whose objective is to identify and develop junior tennis player, enabling them play competitive tennis. Saidi Mawa a JTI program coach will lead the team during the competition. The competition will serve as a qualifier for the Eastern African region; two (2) Teams in the Boys and Two (2) Teams in the Girls to compete at the Continental Final Event of the 12 & Under African Junior Teams ‘Competition (AJTC – 12&U) 2025 The competition will feature a round-robin format, with teams competing in singles and doubles matches to determine the overall winner. The competition aims to promote tennis development in East Africa, foster regional unity, and provide a platform for junior players to gain valuable competitive experience.

During the flag off ceremony at National Council of Sports, the Assistant General Secretary Administration Mr. Oluga Joseph who represented the General Secretary Dr. Ogwel Patrick was joined by Mr. Chebet Milton, the Assistant General Secretary Technical, Ms. Nankya Annie, the senior sports officer and Mr. Kasumba James, the sports officer in charge of Tennis at the council. Present also were the parents of the children travelling for the tournament. Mr. Oluga, informed the team that Government is committed in developing, promoting and controlling sports which is within the mandate of the National Council of Sports. He asked the team to exercise a high level of discipline while in Tanzania in order to achieve the mission of winning medals. Uganda Tennis Association was thanked by Mr. Oluga for being very organized and submitting documents to be registered by the council in accordance with the Sports Act 2023 and 2025 sports regulations. Mr. Chebet Milton stressed the need to exercise high level of patriotism by ably representing the country and lifting the flag high by winning medals. He also thanked the parents for embracing sports and providing the children with an enabling environment for them to practice sports.
