ANOCA Games in Algeria 26th July to 5th August 2025.
With great words of inspiration to the budding Ugandan youngsters, National Council of Sports (NCS) General Secretary Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel this afternoon flagged off a team of 88 for the first ever Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Schools Games; this inaugural education is due in Algeria 26th July to 5th August 2025.
Dr Ogwel underlined the increasing importance of sports to the national agenda, and emphasized to the youngsters that in Algiers they will be putting their first feet forward as the country prepares for the upcoming Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal (2026), the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland (2026 as well), and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.
He was joined in motivating the travelling athletes by the Commissioner of Physical Education and Sports in the Ministry of Education and Sports, Reverend Canon Dr Duncans Mugumya, in the presence of the two NCS Assistant General Secretaries, Jospeh Oluga (Administration) and Milton Chebet (Technical).
The Uganda Olympic Committee's Lydia Dhamuzungu will be Chef de Mission, while Patrick Okanya of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSA) will be Team Manager for the group that is set to compete in badminton, tennis, table tennis, swimming, football, athletics, 3×3 basketball and beach soccer.
